🧹 Backlog Grooming – Advanced Analytics

Purpose

To ensure that the requirements as outlined on the backlog are up-to-date and accurate, including their accompanying estimates.

Participants

All Advanced Analytics team members who have projects needing grooming

Cadence

Bi-weekly Wednesdays (Alternating with Sprint Planning)

Format

• Current Backlog Review
  Confirm ticket statuses are accurate and reflect current progress.
• Project Prioritization
  Reassess and update priorities for tickets targeted for the next sprint.
• New Project Validation
  Review new backlogs to ensure all requirements align with the project charter and team expectations.
• Scope Change Assessment
  Identify and review any changes in scope or newly added items in active projects.

Guiding Principals

• Tickets to match guidance defined in DevOPs section
• Tickets to be built outside of the ceremony.

Expected Outcome

Backlog will be reviewed and updated to ensure it reflects the most current and relevant business requirements. Each item will be:

• Clarified with sufficient detail to support development and testing.
• Estimated with input from the appropriate team members to gauge effort and complexity.
• Prioritized based on business value, urgency, and dependencies to guide upcoming sprint planning.

By the end of the session, the backlog should be well-organized, actionable, and aligned with strategic goals, enabling the team to confidently plan and execute future work.
