Cadence

9:00 AM on any day without an existing ceremony, excluding Meeting-Free Thursday mornings.

Format

  • Pre-Meeting Preparation
    • Team members must update the sprint board before the meeting.
    • Ensure tasks are moved to the appropriate state.
  • During the Stand-Up each team member shares:
    • Any blockers:
      • Provide a concise description of the blocker.
      • Identify team members needed to resolve it.
      • Coordinate resolution outside of the stand-up.
    • Any quick learnings relevant to the team.
    • Any risks to achieving their sprint goal.

Guiding Principles

  • Keep It Focused
    • Solutioning should occur outside the meeting or after everyone has had a chance to speak.
    • The stand-up is for quick updates, blockers, and alignment—not deep dives.
    • Avoid multitasking during standup
  • Sprint Board Discipline
    • All team members should have at least one active task on the board.
    • Ensure all tasks related to active stories are represented on the sprint board.

Expected Outcome

  • Confident Execution
Team members leave the stand-up ready to take action toward their sprint goals.

  • Clear Blocker Ownership
All blockers are surfaced, with ownership assigned and a plan to resolve them outside the meeting.

  • Proactive Risk Management
Risks to sprint goals are identified early, enabling timely support and adjustments.

  • Accurate Sprint Board
The sprint board reflects the true state of work, supporting transparency and effective planning.
